How to Make a Fake WhatsApp Chat

A walkthrough of every control you need to build a believable WhatsApp conversation, from contact name to tick colour to export.

· FauxTalks

Short answer: to make a fake WhatsApp chat, open a browser-based generator, choose the WhatsApp style, name the contact, type the messages under the right sender, set the tick status on yours, and download the result as a PNG. In FauxTalks this takes a couple of minutes, needs no account, and nothing you type is uploaded.

This guide follows the real controls in the FauxTalks editor. If you would rather jump in, open the editor with WhatsApp selected or read about the fake WhatsApp chat generator.

Step 1: Open the WhatsApp style

Go to fauxtalks.com/app?platform=whatsapp. You get a WhatsApp-style screen with a white header, the patterned chat background and a short example conversation. Your first message replaces the example.

Step 2: Set the contact

In the People section, rename the contact by typing in the name box. That name appears in the header. Click the round picture beside it to upload a profile photo from your device.

In a one-to-one chat the header shows "online" under the name. That line is fixed, so it is not something you can edit.

Step 3: Write the messages

  1. Type in the New Message box.
  2. Under "Send as", choose who is speaking, or press Tab to switch person.
  3. Press Enter to send. Shift+Enter adds a line break inside the same message.

Your messages appear on the right in green. The other person's appear on the left in white. The first bubble in a run gets the small WhatsApp tail, the way the real app does it.

Step 4: Set the time on each message

The time box next to the message field sets the small timestamp in the corner of that bubble. Type something like "10:42 PM". Leave it blank and FauxTalks uses your current time.

Change the time as you go. A reply that lands one minute later feels different from one that arrives an hour later, and a thread where every bubble has the same minute looks typed in one sitting.

Step 5: Pick the ticks

When WhatsApp is selected, a "Message Status" menu appears. Choose it before you send a message, and that message gets the matching ticks:

Ticks only show on your own messages, as in the real app. If you want the end of the chat to look unanswered, set the last few messages to Delivered or Sent.

Step 6: Add a date line, a photo or a voice note

Making a WhatsApp group chat

Switch from Direct to Group in the sidebar. Set a group name, optionally upload a group picture, and add each member with their own name and avatar. In a group, each other person's name appears in colour above their message, and the header lists the members under the group name. System-message presets such as "Sophia joined the group" and "Group chat created" are built in.

Step 7: Export

Click Download PNG for a still image. For a chat that appears message by message, use Play Animation to preview it and Export Video to record it. Exports carry a small "Made with FauxTalks.com" mark.

You can also set the status bar time, battery, Wi-Fi and signal before exporting, and hide the status bar, header or message bar if you only want the messages.

Things that make a fake WhatsApp chat look off

Use it honestly

Fake chats are good for memes, short films, ads, mockups, tutorials and classroom examples. They are not for impersonating a real person, tricking anyone, or backing up a claim in a dispute. Say it is a mockup when you share it. See best uses for fake chat generators for the full list.

Use it honestly

FauxTalks is built for memes, storytelling, UI mockups, design portfolios, app tutorials and classroom examples. Do not use generated screenshots to impersonate real people, to deceive, defraud or harass anyone, or as evidence in any legal, employment or financial matter. Label your mockups as mockups.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a fake WhatsApp chat?

Open the FauxTalks editor with WhatsApp selected, rename the contact, type messages under the right sender, choose sent, delivered or read for your own messages, then click Download PNG.

Can I change the ticks on my messages?

Yes. Pick Sent (one grey tick), Delivered (two grey ticks) or Seen / Read (two blue ticks) in the Message Status menu before you send each message. Ticks only appear on your own messages.

Can I make a fake WhatsApp group chat?

Yes. Switch to Group, set a group name and picture, and add members with their own names and avatars. Built-in system messages include "joined the group" and "Group chat created".

Can I add voice notes and photos?

Yes. The microphone button adds a voice-note bubble with a waveform, and the image button adds a photo. The voice note length is chosen at random and cannot be edited.

Can I turn the chat into a video?

Yes. Use Play Animation to preview and Export Video to record the chat appearing message by message with a typing indicator before messages from the other person.

Is anything I type uploaded or saved on a server?

Yes. FauxTalks runs in your browser and needs no account. The messages and images you add stay on your device, and your current chat is autosaved only in your browser's local storage. The site uses Google Analytics for anonymous visit counts, which never include your messages.

Does the export have a watermark?

Yes, a small one. Every PNG and video carries a "Made with FauxTalks.com" mark in the corner. It keeps the tool free and marks the image as a mockup.
